THG is part of the project team for the masterplan development and subsequent detailed landscape design for the Tivoli Sports Field, located near Ipswich on the Bremer River.
The site itself has a diverse history and includes six parcels of land covering approximately 37 hectares. The land is comprised of the former Tivoli waste water centre, existing sporting complex and adjoining land formerly used for extractive industries including coal mining.
The design elements of the project include but are not limited to pathway design, cycle and pedestrian circulation network, access compliance, play space design, planting design, sports field design, entry statements and lighting. Crime prevention strategies and water sensitive design principles have been integrated into the project and include bio filtration and retention systems, irrigation, re-vegetation and stabilization to banks of the Bremer River, as well as board walk and pontoon design.
Creating a long term vision for the master plan, THG have identified not only what the project should look like but how it should function into the future. This is has meant ensuring access to a comprehensive range of active and passive recreational activities that reflect the diverse culture of the area and providing opportunities for community interaction. The project will also promote a healthy lifestyle of being active and involved in physical activities such as walking, cycling, tai chi and organised sport activities.
In addition, THG’s goal has been to improve the visual amenity of the site by preserving and enhancing the natural and vegetated elements to the park including the river. The design reflects on the site history and prior usage, to enhance the sense of ownership by the community and provide historical and environmental awareness.
