THG’s Urban Design team was engaged to undertake an interesting liveability project, involving the design of a mining camp in Blackwater. The idea was to do something‘different’ that focused on increasing the quality of life in facilities and amenities in the camp.
THG’s MaD team are fortunate to have a background in psychology, so we were able to further value add to the elements of liveability to develop a successful strategy. Thedocumentation produced was presented to council and the local community in a way that was easily understandable and met their needs.
The idea was to create a mining camp that was different from the norm by exploring ways to use different (and better) solutions than those which were specified in the townplan. For example, instead of covering every walkway at a high cost to the developer, our plan suggested covering walkways with trees to achieve a more liveable solution.
However the challenge was to communicate these ideas to the local council to be approved using the proposal documents created by our MaD team. To be successful, the document had to really demonstrate the benefits of the proposed changes.
