There seems to be some momentum in the commercial market of late and
anecdotal evidence suggests we’ll soon be returning to a pre-bust state
of office space shortage. We’re seeing tumbling office vacancy rates
from 10% to around 7%, with these numbers expected to continue to fall
as the resource sector gears up.

Thoughts Provoked by World Town Planning Day

World Town Planning Day was this week and the aim is to promote awareness, support, and advocacy of community and regional planning among the general public. The day is also aimed at recognizing and promoting the role of planning in creating liveable communities. As I was watching a news bulletin piece on the new IKEA store that had opened at Tempe in Sydney the thought hit me that planning recognition in the wider community really does need more advocacy, support and awareness.

Building from the outside in...

The traditional development process is being flipped inside
out as lots get smaller, houses bigger and zero lot boundaries increase. With
the high demand for outdoor living, especially in Queensland, the development
model is changing and landscape architects now play an increasing role in the
early stages of the house design process instead of as an afterthought once
construction is complete.
